About the data
gameawards.net tracked Game of the Year awards from around the world from 2003 until it went offline. This site reconstructs that archive: 6,547 individual awards, 453 games, 2,551 media outlets, 87 countries.
How it was rebuilt
Every surviving capture of each year page was pulled from the Wayback Machine, and the latest complete capture of each was parsed back into structured records.
How accurate is it?
Each parsed year is checked against the tallies the original site published. 425 of 462 entries (92.0%) reconcile exactly. The rest differ by one or two awards, generally where the original site's own tally and its outlet list disagreed.
Game facts
Release dates, developers, genres, platforms and play modes come from Wikidata (CC0); descriptions from Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0). Campaign length is not available from either and is shown as "not documented" until a licensed source is added.
What is missing
The source stopped updating during the 2022 season. For 2022 onward we show only awards we can cite individually, clearly marked as partial.
